As we celebrate Earth Day 2016 on April 22, we pause to celebrate the beauty and bounty of our community, which lives close, so close to the land.
We are so fortunate to be reminded of nature’s abundance every day, surrounded by beautiful vistas everywhere we look. As we celebrate Earth Day 2016 on April 22, we pause to celebrate the beauty and bounty of our community, which lives close, so close to the land. How can we be better stewards of the world? We all know about the three Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle!
Recycling is always in season at Sonoma and Glen Ellen Village Markets, where we have been composting, sorting our recyclables and rewarding customers for bringing in reusable bags for years! You receive a raffle ticket for every reusable bag that you bring to the store, and we give away a $100 gift card EVERY DAY to one lucky winner.
One way to be kind to our planet is to reuse, and there’s no better place for creative inspiration around reuse than the Sonoma Community Centers’ Trashion Fashion event. This year, we were proud to partner with SCC and designer Margaret Hatcher on two fabulous ensembles created entirely from raffle tickets. Stacia Rodden, Assistant Manager from Sonoma Market and Dylan Smith from Transcendence Theater walked the catwalk in style, joining more than 20 professional and amateur designers who created original wearable art for the show by turning recycled materials and cast off junk into Haute Couture. Then in 2015, Al Minero strutted his label attire, which adorned our daily specials.
Join us in making every day Earth Day–and don’t forget to bring your reusable bags!
