This year is a great time to make a resolution with a twist – one that won’t leave you feeling guilty a few weeks from now!
Shop local and bring your own bags
It sounds simple but the impact is profound and affects all of us! A commitment to shop local and independent stores like Sonoma Market and many others in our communities pays back in many ways. Every purchase you make from us supports other small businesses in our community – from farmers to dairy owners, small batch and artisan bakers, wineries, and more – strengthening our community’s economic base.
And when you bring your own bags, you not only make an environmental impact, you might be one of the lucky winners – we continue to give away a $100 gift card EVERY SINGLE DAY of the week through our reusable bag raffle.
Try one new (healthy) thing from the Market each month
It takes 15 to 30 days to form a habit, and sometimes we can get overwhelmed when we try to adopt too many new, healthy habits at the same time. What if you try just one new healthy thing a month?
- Mix up your salads with new greens, such as pea shoots (nutty taste), endive (adds a good, astringent crunch), or a handful of fresh herbs (tarragon, thyme, chives, and basil are all good choices).
- Grill, roast or pan sauté fish at least once a week. Our seafood team can help you decide if salmon, tilapia, sole or seabass – the options are extensive!
- Branch out and try coconut oil, which has many uses – as an oil for sautéing and cooking, as a nutritional boost (mix into your coffee, smoothie or simply eat a tablespoon full dipped in bee pollen) or try as a hair or skin conditioner.
- Boost your nutritional profile with chia, flax, hemp or another heart and body healthy addition to your smoothie, yogurt or cereal habit.
By year’s end, you’ll have a dozen new healthy habits!
Resolve to relax and let us do the cooking sometimes
In the stress of everyday, getting a satisfying or healthy meal on the table goes by the wayside. Did you know it’s actually cheaper and healthier to pick up something from the market than it is to eat out all the time? A rotisserie chicken can be the base for a salad, soup or taco dinner. Our 30-foot long salad bar has up to 40 choices and our Grab & Go has dozens of house-made options that bring our kitchen to your table.
Here’s to a healthy and happy 2016!
