Yolo Farm to Fork announces recipients of Nugget Markets’ 2016 School Garden Grants
Woodland, CA – Yolo Farm to Fork announced the latest recipients of Nugget Markets’ annual school garden grants. In partnership with Yolo Farm to Fork, Nugget Markets works to support local school garden programs throughout Yolo County. In addition to Nugget Markets' donations, Yolo Farm to Fork offers competitive matching grants for school gardens, coordinators, supplies, volunteers, workshops and networking opportunities.
This year Yolo Farm to Fork and Nugget Markets awarded garden grants to five schools throughout Yolo County. The Nugget Markets grant recipients for 2016 are Marguerite Montgomery Elementary in Davis, Tafoya and Whitehead Elementary Schools in Woodland, and White Oaks and Riverbank Elementary Schools in West Sacramento.
Through the competitive grant process, these schools successfully demonstrated new and creative educational experiences through the garden program, offering a wide range of hands-on learning activities that incorporate different subjects and classes. Each school presented a unique and clear vision for their garden’s future and plans for its long-term sustainability.
Nugget Markets has committed to this grant effort to support and enrich local students through garden-based learning. “Yolo Farm to Fork and the children of Yolo County are lucky to have Nugget Markets’ continued support,” said Suzanne Falzone, Board President of Yolo Farm to Fork. “Nugget Markets recognizes the importance of garden-based learning in our schools, and the value it has to education and whole child enrichment.”
