Want to know the A, BEE, C’s of honey and bees? Check out these fun facts from Doneice Woody of Henry's Bullfrog Bees and PURE Honey!
Bee-Type Personalities: Honeybee (Apis Mellifera) colonies consist of three different types of bees: the queen bee, drones and workers bees.
Busy Bees: Did you know bees pollinate roughly 1/3 of the foods we eat? They also pollinate 100% of almonds and add $15 billion to the nation’s crop revenue every year.
Don’t Worry, Bee Happy: Family-owned Henry’s Bullfrog Bees and PURE Honey are based locally in Winters, California. They use safe, sustainable beekeeping practices to take care of their bees, which results in top-quality honey.
Local Love: While Henry’s Bullfrog Bees help pollinate crops throughout many local counties, PURE Honey only comes from their own hives to ensure clean, pure, all-natural honey. (They also produce our own pure, raw, local Fresh to Market Honey!)
The Bee’s Knees: Honey not only tastes good, but is also good for you! Pure, raw honey has naturally beneficial enzymes, and local honey is good for allergies. Honey can also replace refined sugar in most recipes, is a natural antiseptic and is great for your skin!
Plight of the Honeybee: Unfortunately, the bee population has been decreasing over the last decade. Some of the issues include disease-carrying mites that attach to bees and droughts, which can decrease the number of flowers available for bees to pollinate. Henry’s Bullfrog Bees will collaborate with UC Davis next year on a research project to find out more ways to help the bee population blossom!
Save the Bees: Want to do your part to help bee-kind? Try planting a variety of pollinator-friendly plants like lavender and salvia! Just like people need a variety of foods, a variety of plants is important for bees. You can also set out a shallow bowl of water with rocks so bees have a place to land and stay hydrated.
Sweet as Honey: When bees pollinate different types of flowers, it can create different tastes, textures and flavors of honey. PURE Honey offers two pure varietals of honey—Spring Blossom and Orange Blossom (with extra vitamin C!)—along with flavored varieties infused with cinnamon or organic food grade lavender. For a decadent treat, try their honey caramel sauce!
