On or off the cob, fresh, juicy corn is almost synonymous with summer. Grilled in husk, tossed in a salad or slathered in copious amounts of butter, corn is as versatile as it is delicious. Even better, some of our favorite white corn comes from local producer Vierra Farms in West Sacramento.

Passionate about produce, farmer David Vierra began Vierra Farms when he was just 18, after he planted his first pumpkin patch 5 years earlier. Fast-forward a few years and David now farms more than 800 acres of specialty vegetables including corn, pumpkins and another one of our favorites—black seedless watermelon.
Commonly known as black watermelons because of their extremely dark green skin, these unique fruits are actually called Imagination Melons. In this case, a melon by any other name really would taste as sweet, as these local melons have great consistency and flavor along with show-stopping looks.
