The items needed are either most likely in your pantry, easy to find in a craft store, dollar store or your local Nugget Markets.
- Floral foam (or Oasis) for keeping stems moist and in place.
- Skewers or flower picks for produce
- Floral or clear tape
- Our basic flower arranging tips, found in our Flower Power blog.
Jar it up!
Use any size of Mason jar with a small rectangle of floral foam or tape for a grid as described in our Flower Power blog. Then fill ¾ of the jar with water and create your arrangement. Once the arrangement is made, drop seasonal produce such as grapes, cranberries and orange slices along the side of the vase. If you need to, add more water.
Pro Tip: It’s easy to create layers of color for your vase! Grapes float, cranberries sink and orange wheels look great on their side.
Seeing Double
Using one vase inside a larger vase gives the illusion that it is full of seasonal produce, yet dry. You’ll need:
- Two vases, one small enough to fit inside the other
- Seasonal produce such as cranberries
- Floral foam or tape for the arrangement inside the vase
Get Low
For the dinner table, sometimes it’s nice to have a low-profile arrangement for ease of conversation. For this you’ll need to use:
- A long, narrow container
- Soaked floral foam
- Seasonal produce like pomegranates, small and medium-sized apples and oranges decorated with cloves.
- Floral picks or kitchen skewers cut to appropriate length
Pro Tip: Add some stars or dry star anise from the bulk herb bins. Simply hot glue the star to the end of the skewer and place in your arrangement.
As always, if you have any questions you can ask any of the floral associates for other tips and tricks on how to arrange your flowers. Or, with the purchase of a vase, your floral specialist can arrange the flowers for you!
