MacRostie Chardonnay: Steve MacRostie has been a pioneer of chardonnay since the early 1970s. Made of fruit from some of the area’s top vineyards, his Sonoma Coast bottling is an extreme value.
Bodegas Atalaya Laya: A bold blend of grenache and mourvedre, this wine could make our list every year. It’s dark and inky in color, but rich and approachable on the palate with hints of roasted coffee and licorice.
Castello di Albola Chianti Classico: This terrific vintage has a pleasant mix of dried red fruits, savory herbs and oak spice with some tannins on the finish and a refreshing burst of acidity to keep you coming back for more.
Shannon Ridge Zinfandel: The Clear Lake region of Northern California produces some of the best value wines in the state, and this is a prime example. It’s big and full-bodied, but not overwhelming on the palate.
