While you can obviously decorate however your heart desires, here are a few step-by-step ideas to get you started. Happy decorating!
General Tips:
- Cut ¼ inch off the tip of the pastry bag for a smaller piping tip, or ½ inch for a larger piping tip.
- Add sprinkles quickly before the buttercream dries!
Classic Ghost:
- Squeeze white buttercream onto cookie and smooth out with a knife.
- Outline with a different color to make your cookie pop!
- Write “BOO!” on the body and add a silly face.
Candy Corn Ghost:
- Spread the top third of the cookie with white buttercream.
- Spread the middle third of the cookie with yellow buttercream.
- Spread the bottom third of the cookie with orange buttercream.
- Drag your knife with equal pressure from bottom to top to create a mosaic candy corn effect.
- Finally, add a spooky face with another color of buttercream.
Classic Bat:
- Squeeze black buttercream on cookie and smooth out with a knife.
- Outline with a different color of buttercream so it stands out.
- Add a pair of eyes to finish it off!
Sprinkle Bat:
- Squeeze your choice of buttercream on cookie and smooth out with a knife.
- Cover in sprinkles before it dries!
Jack O’ Lantern:
- With a wider tip, pipe a series of orange parentheses shapes on the left and right side of the cookie, with one straight line down the middle.
- Use different colors to add a stem on top, plus two triangle eyes and a toothy grin.
- Finish by putting sprinkles in the palm of your hand and pressing them onto the side of the cookie.
Zig Zag Pumpkin:
- Draw a zig zag diagonally across cookie with a darker color of buttercream, then outline and fill in half the cookie with that same color and smooth out frosting.
- Outline and fill the other half of the cookie with a second color, then smooth out the frosting.
- Add sprinkles to the bottom half of the cookie for extra flair.
