At Nugget Markets, we want you to feel good about the groceries you purchase at our stores AND how you take them home. As we phase back in the use of reusable bags at our checkstands and in produce, we want you to know what your options are when you check out. That’s why we’re excited to begin offering Ocean Plastic bags at our checkstands!

In addition to our paper bags which are made with 40% post-consumer recycled content and certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, you now have the option to choose a reusable plastic bag made from plastic that has been recycled before it makes it to the ocean. Hence, Ocean Plastic.

Ocean Plastic is made with 90% post-consumer recycled content, which is why the bags are darker in color. These bags are made from plastic bottles and other plastic packaging that would normally (unfortunately) end up in our waterways and littering our beaches, washing up along coastal countries like Haiti and Mexico.

This plastic intervention of sorts not only ensures plastic actually gets recycled (not trashed!), it also helps create jobs in the collection, sorting and recycling of this plastic. Sounds like extraordinary sustainability to us!
