According to the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council, 1 cup of blueberries contains:
- Vitamin C: The Vitamin C in blueberries can help support immunity, healthy skin and connective tissue.
- Polyphenols: Polyphenols, including anthocyanins (a type of antioxidant), give blueberries their deep color.
- Fiber: The fiber in blueberries can help with heart health, digestive support and feeling full.
- Manganese: Manganese can help support energy production and bone development.
- Vitamin K: The Vitamin K in blueberries can help with regulating blood clotting and bone metabolism.
- Low Calories: One serving (1 cup) of blueberries is only 80 calories.
When it comes to fresh vs. frozen, there are major perks to both!
Fresh Blueberries: Ripe, plump and juicy, there’s nothing quite like munching on ripe blueberries fresh from the farm. Drop by our Produce Department to find bushels (figuratively speaking) of blueberries ready to enjoy by the handful. You can also bump up the berries in your morning yogurt for a fun fruit parfait, or adding them to salads, acai bowls, desserts or cocktails for a pop of color and sweetness!
Frozen Blueberries: If you want the taste of fresh blueberries all year long, head to the freezer! Frozen blueberries are flash-frozen so they keep their flavor, shape and nutritional integrity on ice well after harvest. These cool berries are extremely versatile and are ideal for adding to smoothies or milkshakes, making waffles or energy bars, baking into your favorite dessert and even simmering to make a sweet sauce for savory dishes.
