Flowers may have a reputation for being lovely and light, but they don’t always have to be...! Follow along to learn how to use fresh and dried flowers to create DIY spiders and a creepy floral arrangement perfect for the spooky season.
What you’ll need:
- Local protea bouquet (or your preferred flowers)
- Dried flowers such as eryngium (seen here) or nigella (or 3–5 stems of extra greens)
- Optional: 3 red roses
- Floral foam
- 4-inch black vase or waterproof container
- Black spray paint
To make your arrangement, start by soaking your floral foam in water.
Spray paint a few dried flowers (or extra greens) with black spray paint, then let them dry.
Place the floral foam into your vase or waterproof container, keeping the foam even with the top.
Using the greens from the bouquet, insert stems into the floral foam to create a triangle shape. Greens too tall? Don’t be afraid to cut the stems! The extra end pieces can be placed in the foam to create more fullness.
Place the proteas in the foam evenly among the greens at three different heights.
For added interest, add the painted stems staggered throughout your arrangement to look like spiders (or dark foliage).
To add some height, you can place one of the roses up high at the top of the triangle shape and then place the other two staggered beneath the first rose or within the arrangement.
If you want to go the extra mile, add some fiber cobwebs around your flowers for extra festive fun.
Once you've finished, stand back and admire your beautiful boo-quet. Happy Halloween!
Selection may vary by store.
