We’ve all been there—happy to host the holiday festivities and thinking we’ve got it all under control. And then… WHAM! Your niece went vegan. Your brother’s bringing his new girlfriend. Your cousin bailed on bringing the sweet potatoes. Entertaining can be a rollercoaster of emotions that aren’t all that entertaining, but the good news is, you can and will get through it! Navigate the five stages of hosting this holiday season with solutions for every step of the way.
Stage 1 - Denial: I still have plenty of time!
Solution: That’s great! Explore hundreds of our chef-created recipes to plan your perfect menu before you get cooking.
Stage 2 - Anger: Why did I agree to this?!
Solution: Take some time for yourself, enjoy a holiday sip, relax, and regroup. You can’t pour from an empty cup!
Stage 3 - Bargaining: Maybe it can be a potluck?
Solution: Darn right, it can! See if any guests want to bring a dish or two or save time and order it all online. (NOTE: The last day to order is December 19, 2025!)
Stage 4 - Depression: I have no idea what I’m doing...
Solution: Step 1: Pet a dog, cat, or cute thing of your choice. Step 2: Check out these stress-free tips for entertaining. Step 3: Repeat solution for Stage 2.
Stage 5 - Acceptance: Actually, maybe this will be all right.
Solution: That’s the spirit! For all those final odds and ends, make your list and check it twice with our “Don’t Forget” checklist.
No matter which stage you find yourself in, remember that sharing good times with loved ones is the main point of hosting—good food, drinks, decorations, and all those other details are just a bonus.
Wishing everyone very happy holidays from our family to yours!
