As part of our commitment to environmental responsibility, Nugget Markets is engaged in an ongoing partnership with FishWise, a sustainable seafood non-profit based in Santa Cruz, California. We are excited to announce that this year Greenpeace USA has given our stores a rank of 83 on their annual sustainable seafood report.
As a locally owned company since 1926, Nugget Markets understands the value of supporting local products. With our new labeling system, now it’s easier for our guests to spot local, California-grown and organic products in our stores.
Mckenna Cruts and sister Logan told their parents that they wanted to donate money toward Japan earthquake relief efforts. In one week, the girls made a donation box, collected $225, and the girls' parents Lori and Duane matched those funds totaling $450. The family then came to the El Dorado Hills Nugget during our Japan earthquake matching fund drive and ended up turning that $450 into a $900 donation to the Red Cross! Thank you to the Cruts family and all our fantastic Nugget guests for helping those in great need.
In honor of Autism Awareness Month, we've extended our fund drive through April 30 at all Nugget Markets in support of the MIND Institute and its commitment to autism research. Stop by any Nugget Market to make your tax-deductible check-stand donation ($5, $10, $15, $20 or any amount of your choice), and Nugget will donate a matching contribution up to $2,000.
From March 15 through April 1, all Nugget Markets stores are accepting monetary donations at every check stand in partnership with the American Red Cross and its efforts to provide aid to victims of the Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami. Nugget Market, Inc. will donate a matching contribution up to $5,000 to the American Red Cross.
While paying for their groceries, you may make a tax-deductible monetary donation at the check stand, and that donation amount will be recorded on their sales receipt. All funds directly support those affected by the Japan quake and tsunami.
“The Nugget Market and Food 4 Less family of associates and our guests have come alongside the American Red Cross to help alleviate the effects of this disaster,” says Eric Stille, CEO of Nugget Market, Inc. “We’re committed to helping and to bringing hope and aid to those in need.”

Every summer we base an issue of the Wine Press on winners from the California State Fair. This wine fair is a very substantial tasting, where nearly 3,000 California wines are judged. However, for this issue we decided to glean wineries from an even larger fair involving wines from all over America – the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
As major sponsors of the second-annual Sacramento Beer Week, we're celebrating Sacramento’s rich beer culture and a variety of tasty brews by offering special in-store tasting events on Saturday 2/26, Tuesday 3/1, Thursday 3/3, and Saturday 3/5. For more details check out our full event calendar
Surprise! Celebrating this St. Patrick’s Day with the traditional fare of cabbage, carrots, potatoes and corned beef—all washed down with a mug of dark beer—may bring you more than good luck. Many of Ireland’s staples have some amazingly healthy “charm.”
Besides wearing green this St. Patrick’s Day, try eating green—both good-for-you and good-for-the-environment green foods.
