What you’ll need:
- Pumpkin carving knife
- Flower clippers
- Small to medium pumpkin
- Narrow vessel (vase or drinking glass) to fit inside pumpkin
- Medium bouquet
- Rubber band
How to make the arrangement:
- Carve a hole in the top of the pumpkin wide enough for the vessel or vase to fit inside.
- Place the vessel in the pumpkin and fill the vessel with several inches of water and a sprinkling of floral food.
- Take bouquet apart and separate greens from flowers.
- Arrange flowers in your hand to make a nicely shaped, domed arrangement.
- Remove lower leaves from flower stems.
- Hold flowers upside down to measure height against pumpkin, then trim stems to desired length (it’s best to err on the longer side).
- Place rubber band around cut stems to hold them together.
- Place bouquet in the vessel in the pumpkin. If arrangement is too tall, trim shorter.
- Trim greens into smaller pieces, but still long enough to reach the water, then use them to fill any gaps in your arrangement.
- For extra fun, stick the pumpkin top on a skewer and add to the arrangement.
Pro Tip: Place pumpkin on a plate in case it begins to degrade, and check water level daily to increase the life of the flowers.
