Marshmallows and walnuts add a delectable contrast of texture in this sweet, easy side. Your guests will be going in for seconds, that’s for sure!
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1½ cups brown sugar, divided
- 1½ teaspoons kosher salt, divided
- 6 ounces unsalted butter, softened
- 3½ pounds yams, medium diced
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- 9 ounces mini marshmallows
- 8 ounces candied walnuts
Preparation
Combine flour, sugar, 1 cup brown sugar, ½ teaspoon salt and butter in a work bowl and mix until well incorporated, then set aside.
Boil diced yams until tender, about 15 minutes, then drain.
Heat oven to 350°F.
In a work bowl, mix remaining brown sugar, salt and spices, then add the cooked yams and toss well to coat. Place seasoned yams into individual crocks or a single 10x10-inch baking dish. Top evenly with the crumbled butter and flour mixture, followed by the marshmallows and finally the walnuts.
Bake for 12–14 minutes, until evenly browned.
