There's no magic formula for classic meatloaf, but this simple recipe will give you a moist, mouthwatering meal every time.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup bread, small cubed (about 3 slices)
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ pound ground lean pork
- 1 egg, beaten
- ¼ cup minced onion
- 1¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- ¼ teaspoon dry mustard
- ¼ teaspoon celery salt
- ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, combine the milk and bread and soak until fully absorbed. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well, being careful not to over-work the mix or the meatloaf will become tough. Shape the mixture into a log no more than three inches tall.
Gently roll the loaf on a cutting board to smooth out any uneven parts and transfer to a foil or parchment lined baking sheet. Bake uncovered until it has a minimum internal temperature of 160°F, 45 to 60 minutes. Rest 10-15 minutes before slicing.
Tip: To make sure you seasoning is right, take a small amount of the meatloaf mix, form into a small patty and cook it in a skillet. Adjust the seasonings if needed and proceed with baking.
