Sausage Pizzetta

This standout sausage pizza stars both fresh mozzarella and ricotta cheese, plus a smattering of Kalamata olives, basil and red onion. Try it on a traditional crust or use artisan bread slices for playful canapés!
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- ⅓ pound Fresh to Market Mild Italian Sausage
- 1 small pizza crust OR slices of focaccia or baguette
- ½ cup tomato sauce
- ⅓ pound fresh mozzarella, sliced ¼-inch thick
- ¼ cup whole milk ricotta cheese
- 1 tablespoon chili flakes
- ¼ red onion, julienned
- ¼ cup Kalamata olives, pitted and chopped
- ¼ cup basil leaves, torn
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Heat oil in a sauté pan, add sausage and break apart in pan. Remove cooked sausage crumbles with a slotted spoon and set aside.
Place preferred pizza crust on a baking sheet. Place sauce in middle of the crust and spread out evenly, then add fresh mozzarella slices and dollops of ricotta cheese.
Bake pizza for 10-15 minutes, or until cheese melts.
Add chili flakes, sliced red onion, crumbled sausage and Kalamata olives. Return pizza to oven and bake for another 5 minutes.
Once cooked, remove pizza from oven, top with torn basil and serve.
